organizational leadership
coaching
Exercising leadership as a Director, Team Leader, or Change Committee in an organization can be an isolating and lonely experience! This is especially true where supervisory support is either unavailable, incompetent, or where no organizational norm, or traditions are established supportive to a Leader's "purposeful stepping back to analyze, or dream options" process.
With cutbacks in today's organizations as a "cost efficiency measure", leadership is often stretched into multitasking, such that little on the job time is legitimately available to reason through the next steps, what are the clear priorities, or what would be the best policy, or action steps to solve some "bottle neck, or glitch"?
The usual contracting steps identified earlier are followed such that once the "coaching contract" is in place, I would meet on a regular basis with the Individual, or Group, reviewing,
- What overall Plans, priority Objectives and their associated Action Steps were reviewed in the last Coaching session, and specific commitments taken ...... who was doing what, when, where,& how, and what was achieved, including learning's from this solutions focused process.
- Where specific blockages, or performance gaps continued to undermine best efforts, encourage, and facilitate a problem solving process fully empowering the Individual, or Committee in their next efforts. Celebrate Individual, and/or Team member's efforts where core priorities have been achieved, and/or serious efforts have been extended! Informal teaching sessions where a knowledge, or skills gap becomes evident.
- Reestablish the "solutions focused contracting" process for the next performance period, at which time I again join the Individual, or Committee in a Coaching process, referred to in steps a), and b) above.
